Edmonton's two newest schools will not enroll students who live outside their boundaries this year to deal with an influx of students in the rapidly developing area of the Alberta city.

Thousands pitch in to help after mudslide damages homes in Utah city
On Saturday, heavy rains on an area burned by the Dump Fire above Saratoga Springs sent sheets of mud and water down into the Utah city damaging 11 homes, and on Sunday, thousands of volunteers showed up to help create diversion ditches to prevent such events in the future.

Weekend rains slow fires in W. Wyoming, Yellowstone Park
Crews fighting the North Buffalo and Butte Creek fires in western Wyoming got a little help from the weather on Friday and Saturday, and the three fires burning in Yellowstone National park were slowed somewhat by cooler weather and some precipitation.

Crews pulled off Montana wilderness fire due to safety concerns
A wildfire burning in the Scapegoat Wilderness in Montana burned across another 1,000 acres this past weekend, and due to heavy fuels and erratic winds, crews were pulled off the fire lines.

Wyoming expands options for elk hunt
With many elk herds in Wyoming well above population objectives, the state Fish and Game Department is adding licenses in some areas, including giving hunters the opportunity to buy licenses to take three elk in some areas.

Yellowstone Park's beginning topic of presentation on U. of Montana campus

Investigative journalist Andrew Nikiforuk will be on the University of Montana campus on Wednesday, Sept. 5, where he will make a presentation on "Empire of the Beetle: How Human Folly and a Tiny Bug are Killing North America's Great Forests," from 3:10 to 4:30 p.m., and at 8 p.m., he will make a presentation entitled "The Energy of Slaves: Oil and the New Servitude."

Montana town's Main Street littered with empty storefronts as businesses close
In the past several months, several businesses in Polson's downtown business district have closed their doors, with some like Mountain Home Lighting and Décor, taken down by the housing slump in Montana, and others like Crazy Mike's Video, folding due to changing technology.
