Wyoming county presses Grand Teton Park on road, pathway
Teton County commissioners are resisting Grand Teton National Park's proposal to close Moose-Wilson Road to southbound traffic, although park officials said that is just one option they're considering to reduce traffic on the road in the Wyoming park to protect wildlife.

Frank Teasley helped found the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race in 1996 to showcase areas of Wyoming, and in 2013, the race will run through Montana, Idaho and Utah, as well as Wyoming.

Interim report given on five-year study of black bears in Colorado
Durango was chosen for a five-year study of black bears in urban areas, and at a meeting on Thursday, researchers provided some of the information they'd gleaned during the first 1 1/2 years of the Colorado study, including the fact that some female bears roamed hundreds of miles during mating season.

Montana wildlife agents capture grizzly bear near Columbia Falls home
A male grizzly bear that weighed more than 300 pounds was captured Tuesday by Montana wildlife officials in an apple orchard near Columbia Falls and was radio-collared and relocated to the upper Whale Creek area of the North Fork of the Flathead drainage.

Parks Canada officials optimistic about orphaned grizzly bear's chances in Banff
A male grizzly bear that was one of two cubs left orphaned in Banff National Park when their mother was struck and killed by a train has been hanging around Lake Louise, and was captured and tagged by Parks Canada agents as part of ongoing study to find ways to prevent grizzly bears from being killed by trains.

A one-sentence amendment to a federal transportation bill reduced all states' annual share of Abandoned Mine Lands funds to $15 million, which means Wyoming will lose $718 million in such funds over the next decade.

Montana appeals latest decision on campaign-finance limits
The Montana Department of Justice has asked U.S. District Court Judge Charles Lovell on Wednesday to put his decision rendered earlier this week that removed campaign donation limits for state races on hold while the state appeals that decision, and on Thursday, made the same request of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Following Wednesday evening's debate in Denver, President Barack Obama appeared before an estimated 12,400 people at a rally at Sloan Lake on Thursday, and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney made a surprise appearance at the Colorado Conservative Political Action Committee in Denver before leaving Colorado.

Scientist tells Utah legislators that cutting air pollution good for business
Members of the Utah Legislature's Economic Development Task Force heard from C. Arden Pope, a Brigham Young University economist, who said that reducing air pollution results in savings on health care costs, and that a healthy environment can make a state more attractive to new businesses.

Trader Joe's first Utah store to open in Salt Lake City Nov. 16
Fans of the California-based Trader Joe's gourmet offerings will have reason to celebrate on Nov. 16, when the company opens its first neighborhood grocery store in Utah, but no glasses of Two-Buck Chuck will be lifted in celebration, as the Salt Lake City store won't sell wine and spirits.

Wyoming workplace deaths in 2012 may fall below 2011
So far this year, 14 workers in Wyoming have died on the job, and with just three months left in the year, the number may come in lower than in 2011, when 29 died at work.
