NSF awards Montana journalism school $250K for environmental reporting
The School of Journalism at the University of Montana-Missoula was awarded $250,000 from the National Science Foundation to report on environmental issues.

Two young grizzly bears that were walking on the train tracks in a boggy area of Banff National Park were struck and killed by a Canadian Pacific train Friday night.

Montana landowner says he'll sue USFS over out-of-control burn
One lawsuit has already been filed against the Helena National Forest over a controlled burn that escaped its confines in 2010 and burned 2,000 acres, and another Montana landowner has put the U.S. Forest Service on notice that he intends to sue for damages incurred when the fire burned across his property.

Montana, BLM to meet on Missouri River Breaks water rights
Meetings are set this week in Winifred and Stanford on water-rights in the Judith River and Arrow Creek, tributaries in the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument that provide water needed to maintain flows to protect cottonwoods in the national monument in Montana.

Montana U.S. Senate candidates come out swinging in Tuesday's debate
U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, and his Republican challenger U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg engaged in a testy debate Tuesday night at MSU-Billings, with the Montana senator described by his opponent as a clone of President Obama, and the senator describing his opponent as a do-nothing congressman.

Dealerships provide Wyoming with data on natural-gas vehicle costs
Wyoming was one of 22 states that sought proposals from dealerships in July on the cost of natural-gas powered vehicles, and responses provided indicate an average per-vehicle cost of $33,000, and the state's Legislature is considering other natural-gas vehicle measures.

Wyoming OSHA proposes $155,000 fine for Sinclair refinery fire
Sinclair Oil officials said they had not yet had time to examine the $155,000 fine proposed by the Wyoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration for the May 8 flash fire that burned four employees at its refinery near Rawlins.

Nonprofit group buys Idaho ski resort from actor Bruce Willis
A nonprofit recently formed by five individuals to buy the Soldier Mountain Ski Area from actor Bruce Willis will take ownership of the ski area near Fairfield on Thursday.
